To put it simply, I am a book nerd.
My first experience being published came when I was thirteen. A local nonprofit newspaper, The Town Crier of Fair Play, welcomed me onto its staff as columnist for the sheer entertainment value and has kept me around ever since. The monthly publication has a readership of 3,000 in the Upstate area of South Carolina and Northern Georgia, and you can still expect to see a column by me in every issue. It was there I first began to review books, and gain experience interviewing NYTB authors before I was even in high school!
So I read, wrote, and was occasionally required to be social, but I never had a large concern over money other than if I could afford the next book by Susan Beth Pfeffer in hardback. I was happy, nestled between the shelves with any book I could get between my fingers, until I attended StudentLife camp with my youth group. While I was there, the students were given the opportunity to sponsor a child, which would ensure the sponsored child not only ate, attended school and had medical treatment, but also were taught the gospel of Jesus Christ by a nonprofit organization known as Compassion International. I, after talking to my parents, realized I would need actual income if I wanted to take on the monthly payments. By the end of the week I had a partner to co-sponsor the child, and I came back from Covenant College not only with a passion for Christ but also with a commitment to help a seven year old child in Ghana.
Liz Squared Designs was born to save a child. Originally beginning by selling scrabble tile necklaces, I am now in the testing phase of incorporating other products into the line. My present scene is festivals and craft fairs, and as someone who loves stories this suits me quite well! You never know the tales told from one tent to another, or the passing gossip one can overhear from chatty costumers.
I hope you stick around to hear the ramblings of a crafty bookworm!
